Ok. Thanks for the help. You probably just saved me a point.

Al Gore also won the Prize for "An Inconvenient Truth". Wasn't officially Pres. but Cwod said it would be on the test because Gore won the popular vote.

ah, didnt know about the textbook's site, thanks

Re: other block sites by goingthedistancegoingthedistance, 11 Oct 2009 18:07

This is the only site with current notes on it.
Perhaps you may find the textbook's website useful. I believe there is a link to it on the front page.

Re: other block sites by nthreadnthread, 27 Sep 2009 22:47

arent there any other sites that talk about the stuff we're learning right now, i mean

Re: other block sites by goingthedistancegoingthedistance, 27 Sep 2009 19:36

Keehun Nam ran a Block website last year, but he took it down because he's now a junior. :)

Re: other block sites by EriksrocksEriksrocks, 26 Sep 2009 05:30

Well, there's Lindsay's.. but the notes section just redirects you here. The old block sites have been taken down, too..

Re: other block sites by nthreadnthread, 26 Sep 2009 04:56

are there any other block help sites, from previous years perhaps?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. :)

I always thought it was "sence-a-graph???"

should we set up a page with "cwodisms" and quotes and such???

Re: Decoding Cwod by Emily MattisonEmily Mattison, 23 Sep 2009 20:42

haha… yeah.. I wasn't planning on making a separate page for them. It's just leftover from when I first made that page.

I might come off as being super-ignorant, but are we covering enough of each of these two in class to warrant their separation from the Robber Barons page?

Carnegie/Rockafeller by nthreadnthread, 22 Sep 2009 02:58

That's a great idea!
I'll start off with two:

Reactograph: A paragraph (greater than or equal to 5 sentences) detailing your opinion on a topic. These are usually typed to be handed in.
Sentograph: Also typed to be handed in. These have no general purpose, but their size is 2-6 sentences on average.

Re: Decoding Cwod by nthreadnthread, 22 Sep 2009 02:12

Yo, I realized just recently how many people are like "what" when Cwod talks— I had an idea: we should start posting "Cwod-isms" or such here, so everyone knows what the heck is going on— we can also post definitions to things that people get confused with (like "reactograph" and such), so that nobody will be so confused. :)

It's just an idea I thought I'd toss out there, let me know what you think. :)

Someone's already created something similar completely in Wikidot, but I didn't take the time to digg around and figure out how it works.
You might want to take a look at it. :)

We should work on writing a simple component that can replace my crappy calendar! Let it link to the notes pages AND list events!

Haha, no offense taken! by nthreadnthread, 21 Sep 2009 02:14

Hey all! I'm so glad you're all here taking the 5 minutes it will take to read this.

First of all, this site will only succeed if there are more than 2-3 contributors. I would like it if everyone took the time to write a page on a study topic, or improve another page. The Block is a hard set of classes, and my hope (and yours too!) is that this website will help us all in our quest to get an A!

Now that I've got the main purpose of the site down, I'd like to lay some common-sense ground rules/requests for this wonderful resource. Please don't think I'm being harsh, I'm just trying to stay out of trouble and to make this website the best it can be.

  1. Absolutely no trolling/flaming/spamming etc.. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it. If anyone does this, a moderator has reason to remove your posts. People who do this constantly WILL be kicked off of the site.
  2. Stay on topic. Clearly I don't want random discussions about CSI or some other TV show interfering with the site. A moderator's responsibility is to delete these on sight.
  3. Do not post "answer keys" on the forums. If you have a question about an assignment, make sure it is ABOUT the assignment and that you are not giving public answers. This is to keep the website legitimate. Moderators should immediately remove such posts.
  4. Do not make crude or sexually suggestive comments. Racial, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-semitic or otherwise discriminative epithets will not be tolerated AT ALL. This will result in an instant ban and your first and last name added to the "welcome" page under the heading "People who Suck."
  5. Please, please, PLEASE be polite and respectful. If you disagree with someone, do so respectfully, and if you're defending yourself, be even more so. Honor the fact that there are no "right" opinions.

  1. Absolutely no original research. The wiki is for cataloging the information given in class only. Save it for the forums.
  2. Nobody "owns" any of the pages. If someone completely recreates your page, don't be offended. Just make your own improvements!
  3. With respect to #2, please do not get into any ownership "wars." This is classified as misconduct and the page will be locked by the admin. Repeat offenders get the boot.
  4. Do NOT edit the welcome page, the calendar's format, either of the navigation bars or any other page essential to the operation of the site.
  5. Be VERY careful when making any pages related to homework assignments. Do not give answers away.

  1. You are the ones that most help keep the site in check, you have a lot of power, and I expect you to use it responsibly.
  2. When you guys see something objectionable to you, please use discretion when getting rid of it.
  3. If you find yourself unsure as to whether you should remove something, get a second opinion.
  4. You are not a deity.
  5. Being a moderator is a privilege. You can lose the power if you abuse it.

  1. One account per person. Period.
  2. Do not upload any files that are not from the moodle site, or the powerpoints without the admin's written permission.
  3. Don't talk like a sailor.
  4. Please write as correctly and intelligently as you can. Pay attention to your spelling/grammar… other people have to read what you write! :) No txt-tlk AT ALL.
  5. Related to the first, please type out acronyms you aren't SURE everyone understands.
  6. Limit written text to our local dialect of the English language. Just because you speak 163 languages doesn't mean everyone else does. ;)

Now none of that is much more than common sense is it? These are certainly not unrealistic expectations. I hope we can all remain mature and keep the site as it is: a great place to learn, lend a hand, and discuss.

With all that said… have fun in class, learn a lot, and have a great school year!!!

Hey There! (Welcome and Rules) by nthreadnthread, 21 Sep 2009 01:27

I want this to be a temporary solution because only I can edit it. Ideally we would have a fully-functioning calendar that would have both links to notes and homework assignments on it, that anybody could edit. And unfortunately, no offense to Alex, his current implementation of a calendar (basically just a table) is a bit lacking. So hopefully this can serve as an easy to use homework calendar for the time being while Alex continues to link to the day's notes on the other calendar. :)
