William Haywood

- Refused to sign bargaining agreements with employers
- Organized the most remote workers
- Rejected principle of craft organization into “one big union”
- Instead, members made a commitment to revolution
- “capitalism must be overthrown through struggles”
- Struggles were violent
- Police, National Guardsmen, company security often involved
